Carmel’s Bistro Giovanni is, by far, our favorite restaurant in the Monterey Bay area. On a near weekly basis, we talk about how amazing the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant are. We came here for our anniversary dinner a few months ago and honestly, the food was a culinary masterpiece. We started our meal with an order of the five meatballs as an appetizer and they were so perfect that we ordered a second serving of them.
They are honestly to die for! I had the Cannelloni and my boyfriend had the Pollo Parmesan. Both entrees were delicious! For dessert, we had the chocolate mousse and the apple and pear tart. These desserts were such a great way to end a perfect meal. Shields and his staff are so nice and so helpful – it was a joy to talk to them about the menu and restaurant. They really know how to connect with their customers and make them feel special.
This restaurant is a true gem in Carmel. I cannot recommend it enough!

Quiet and romantic, with a touch of exotic. Every dish we tried was delicious and tasty. The staff bended over backwards to make it a pleasant evening, making excellent suggestions and cheerfully checking on us pretty often. This may be our new favorite date spot. Possibly the worst Indian meal ever. We used to eat here on a regular basis and the food product has been declining. My partner took one bite and advised me not to eat.
